Dr. Alpa J Dherai, is a Ph.D in Biochemistry from Mumbai University with an experience in Clinical Chemistry & Biochemical Geneticist. She has an interest in rare diseases – Inborn errors of metabolism, Inflammatory Bowel disease, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring & Pharmacogenetics. She has been trained at premier Biochemical Genetics Laboratories in Europe & USA. She has received John Lawrence Fellowship & Travel & Training grant from European Research Network for Diagnosis of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (ERNDIM).
Currently she is a Consultant Biochemist, at P.D. Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mumbai, India. Her past affiliations include the Chief of Research at Sandor Proteomics Pvt Ltd., Hyderabad.
She is a recognized guide for M.Sc. and Ph.D in Applied Biology affiliated to the University of Mumbai. She has co-authored around 30 publications in peer reviewed journals.

She is also a technical assessor for Biochemistry & Biochemical Genetics in National Accreditation Board of Laboratories (NABL).
She is an executive committee member of Indian Society of Inborn Errors of metabolism (ISIEM). and Association of Clinical Biochemists & Micorbiologists (ACBM). She was the joint secretary of ISIEM 2019 conference held in Pune in January 2019 and Organizing secretary of the Workshop on “Technical Advancement in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring” held in March 2020 in Mumbai under the aegis of ACBM & Hinduja Hospital.
She is a Principal Investigator for an ongoing ICMR funded project entitled “Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease – A Pharmacogenetic Biomarker approach – An observational study”. She was a Co Investigator of the International federation of Clinical Chemistry’s (IFCC) Worldwide multicenteric study on Reference Values.. She was also a participant from Hyderabad center in the ICMR Nationwide task force New born screening and high risk screening studies.
